Just over the IJ River, take a ferry on the quiet dark waters of Amsterdam to join Shelter. Old war bunker converted nightclub, Shelter is hidden under the A’dam tower. It is one of the rare clubs in town with a 24-hour license AND who actually uses it for longer club nights (sometimes until 10 am! Wouhou). The entrance is at the back of the A’dam building (no shiny reception and no hostess – this is the wrong way). The quality function 1 sound system is unique (Dekmantel / Berghain-like) and makes music experiences unforgettable. However, the venue lacks emotion and atmosphere. It’s also a safe place to see the live sets of some of the industry’s most talented names.
I’ll get there: Below Overhoeksplein in the southernmost tip of Amsterdam-Noord, easily accessible by ferry Buiksloterweg, 24/7 behind the main train station.
