Illegal party in the hollow body of a bridge of the A4 – police assume more than 100 participants
In the night to Sunday (06.06.2021), an illegal party took place at the A4 bridge in Overath-Vilkerath (Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis), located in the Schlingenbach valley, the scale of which is beyond imagination: a large number of people gathered – unnoticed by the public – to party in the hollow body of the highway bridge. It is not possible to verify how many people partied inside the bridge, but the police assume more than 100 participants.
At around 8:00 a.m., police officers noticed several young people/young adults who were walking in the direction of Overath. As the police officers followed the trail of trash and beer bottles, they encountered two people below the A4 bridge who were apparently looking for their keys. While the officers were checking the persons, they heard music coming from the hollow space of the bridge and noticed that the door to the inside of the bridge was unlocked.
The complete locking mechanism was lying dismantled next to the door. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the bridge, officers perceived people climbing out of the hollow structure, which was about 500 meters long. Due to the size of the location, the police called for reinforcements and were able to control a group of 12 people in the adjacent forest behind the bridge, who had come from Cologne, Düsseldorf, Duisburg and Offenbach, among other places.
