Building Committee of the Bundestag declares clubs to be cultural sites
Last year, members of the Green Party, the Left Party, the Free Democratic Party, the Social Democratic Party, and the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) founded the “Parliamentary Forum Club Culture & Nightlife” in the Bundestag in order to give the topic more support and visibility across all parliamentary groups. One of the alliance’s most important goals is to improve the situation of clubs and, as a first step, to obtain recognition of music clubs as cultural venues under building law. However, a first corresponding push in the fall of 2020, as part of the Building Land Mobilization Act, was still clearly rejected by Construction Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU). In the context of a joint motion for a resolution on the Building Land Mobilization Act, a surprisingly clear majority in the Building Committee now supported the motion after all. The committee voted almost unanimously in favor of recognition. Confirmation of the basis for the resolution by the Bundestag is considered certain.
